Railways updated with Industrial
Railways. History of the FMSR and its constituents This is a new page which contains links to history, historical timetables and locomotives of the constituents of the FMSR. |
I have now spent over 54 years visiting and studying the Malayan Railway, known locally as Keretapi Tanah Melayu, now shortened to KTM. Many changes have taken place in that time and I hope viewers will find at least some of the photographs interesting or useful. There are now over 1000 photographs on the site and I will update it after each visit to the area. This site has now been restructured and relocated, as of 1st January 2005, and the old pages will shortly become unusable.

These are the only pictures of my own
which I can find from the 1960's but if you visit my "100
years on" page of my site you will
find the open-air museum exhibits.
There were more pictures on the
official KTM site, some of which
go back to the earliest days of the system. These
have
recently been removed but most can be seen
here.
Several books have been published on the railway.
Among these are:
50 YEARS OF
RAILWAYS IN MALAYA 1885 - 1935 published by FMSR
THE MALAYAN RAILWAY by
J.A.Stanistreet, published by THE OAKWOOD PRESS.
LOCOMOTIVE CENTENNIAL by Haji Shamsuddin
published by PENERBIT HIDAYAH.
The latter I purchased from the KTM HQ building,
opposite Kuala Lumpur station, in 1985.
A
number of quarterly magazines have been produced
by the Malayan Railway since the 1960s and these contain some
historical information. Before the Japanese invasion in 1941 the
railway was known as the Federated Malay States Railway or
F.M.S.R.. After completing most of my research on the Singapore
Railway I turned my attentions to the F.M.S.R. and the first
results of this can be found here.
Burma O class 4-4-0. Several of these were transferred to Malaya in 1914. This picture was taken in India before that part of India became Burma.

FUTURE PLANS Our original Stepping Stones and Railsing sites were transferred by Tripod to Lycos then Multimania who went out of business along with Fotopic and some of the recovered content has been posted to Facebook. With the shutdown of mymalaya.com this is now my only website left active, though a few old ones may still be found in archives. Update - the mymalaya.com domain has now been transferred and linked across to the new domain so the website will work from both domain names. |
