The R class

These were ordered for for heavy shunting duties and to replace the earlier class A & B locomotives which were to be used for construction. They themselves were replaced in the larger yards in 1948 by the new class 15 diesel shunters but most found work in the smaller yards for another 10-15 years. 3 were rebuilt with larger bunkers in 1934 for the new coal handling plant at Kuala Lumpur, one was converted for oil burning in 1962 and 2 were sold to the Rompin Mining Company in 1961
