Jakarta area and Cikampek, August 1977.
This should have been a 4 day visit from Singapore to Jakarta, Cirebon and Tegal to photograph the active steam which I had seen from the train on the previous trip, before returning to the UK permanently. The flight from Singapore was delayed for about 6 hours which meant I could not get to Cirebon that night, and this in turn meant I could not get to Tegal and back to Jakarta in time for the return flight unless I skipped the day at Prujakan where I could see the steam trains from Purwokerto. From the airport I went first to Djatinegara, the main steam shed for Jakarta, which had several D52 2-8-2's and 2 C28 4-6-4T's. In the evening I went to Tanah Abang which had a diesel shed containing a preserved narrow gauge 0-8-0T. While I was there a pair of C27 4-6-4T's stopped in the station. The following morning I went to Kota station to catch a train to Cirebon. Two days later I returned to Jakarta and because of another flight delay I was able to spend another day at Djatinegara and Cipinang.
