Solo Valleiwerken
This was a huge project to relieve the constant flooding of the Solo Valley area and provide a huge irrigation project to permit two crops of rice to be grown each year. Work commenced around 1892 and in 1894 24 3' 6" gauge 0-6-0T locomotives were supplied by Cockerill to operate on deceauville type track moving trains of spoil as new channels were built and dredged. The locomotives were sold to the SS in batches between 1901 and 1908 and became their numbers 501-524. Later numbers 506 and 516 were sold on to the Pasoeroean Tramway and in 1912 the remainder were renumbered 24-45. 502, 503, 505, 507, 512 & 521 survived after WWII and in the new system were classified as class C13, numbers C1301-C1306. The two Pasoeroean locomotives had also survived along with a third locomotive built for PSSM in 1911 and for some unknown reason were classified as Class C22, becoming C2201-C2203.
* exact year of transfer to ZSS not given. It may be they went there in 1913 and returned in 1924. The Celebes line closed in 1930 but the fate of the locomotives has not been recorded. > 1 To Construction of the lines Padaralang - Karawang and Rankasbitung - Labuhan in 1904. The 16 which did not have PNKA numbers had all been withdrawn by 1941 as per that year's annual report. |
