Richard Peskett, who is a vehicle restoration engineer, discovered Uncle Howard's Album at a sale. There is no clear definition of who Uncle Howard was, but it is clear from the images that he was employed by the Federated Malay States Railway (FMSR), probably as a Senior Engineer, in the early years of the 20th century. Some images are dated 1911, and the mallets were commissioned around 1919, so this gives a rough period for the images..
Malcolm Wilton-Jones has pointed out that P.H.Henshaw was FMSR's acting General Manager in 1923. Could he be Uncle Howard?
There is very little other information about Uncle Howard, or the photographs. If anyone has any information that helps us to identify locations, dates or people then I will update the site. Meanwhile, a big thank to you Richard Peskett for getting in touch. I know that Malayan Railway historians are excited about this album.

These pictures are probably of Uncle Howard. His image occurs a number of times in the album, either at work or with family and friends. It's hard to judge his age, but there seems to be at least 10 to 15 years difference between the first and last picture.
