Electrische Staatspoorwegen

In the 1920's electrification of lines in and around Batavia (now Jakarta) commenced using the 1500 Volts dc system. This was later extended to Buitenzorg (now Bogor)

In the 1920's Werkspoor received an order for 2 locomotives, 5 railcars and 5 trailers.

Initial services operated between Weldvreden (now Gambir) station in the south of the city and ran to Tanjung Priok, the port area to the north-west of the city. These services were later extended to Mr. Cornelis (now Jatinegara) and Buitenzorg.
