Antonito

24th September 2007

We hired a car in Santa Fe and drove to Antonito via the Rio Grande Gorge. We planned to spend a few days here to travel on and photograph the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad, which runs 64 miles from Antonito, Colorado, to Chama, New Mexico, via Osier, where the trains cross and a lunch break is taken, and the Cumbres pass, a little over 10,000' above sea level. A single journey from end to end including the lunch break takes a whole day so passengers have the option to either change trains at Osier or travel throughout. A bus is laid on to return passengers to their starting point. The following pictures were taken at Antonito in the evening, 484 having worked in from Chama.
