La Junta to Santa Fe

22nd September 2007

We awoke in the morning to find our train passing Dodge City and later Garden City. Away from these places we were crossing an arid plain. After breakfast the train made a stop at La Junta, Colorado, to change drivers and allow the passengers to stretch their legs if they so wished. It would be another 6 hours to Lamy, the junction for Santa Fe, and before that we would have to climb over the Raton Pass, more than 7,500' above sea level.
