Additional information for steam locomotives, reference IRS30, A. N. M. Garry. There are some discrepancies between Garry's article and information from other sources. Garry has Gaya and the Sentinel both as scrapped whereas both are now preserved.

PROGRESS

Penney agent for Brush; used by Pauling on construction, taken over by railway in 1902. Sold 1922 to Philippine Lumber Company.

ENTERPRISE

Penney agent for Brush; used by Pauling on construction, taken over by railway in 1902.  Scrapped before 1914, remains beside line near Beaufort Town for many years.

BARON EMIL

Name removed in 1914, thereafter simply known as 290. Used on the Weston to Beaufort South line. Damaged beyond repair by Japanese bombing in 1942. Remains sold for scrap 1954.

SIR HARRY

First locomotive to reach Beaufort from Jesselton, 7th March 1902. Possibly replaced ADVANCE on Weston line. Withdrawn 1914, kept as donor for 290. Boiler and frames at Tanjong Aru for several years.

ADVANCE

Scrapped or dismantled by 1914. Firebox and other parts used on 290 in 1929.

EDWARD DENT

Waterloo class. Stored from 1914 to 1920, then fitted with an extended smokebox and returned to service. Sold in 1926 to the Woodford Rubber Estate, near Beaufort, as a stationary boiler.

HILDYARD

Reboilered about 1923. Badly damaged by Japanese during WWII. Overhauled and returned to service. Exhibited at the 50th anniversary celebrations at Jesselton in 1955. At Tanjong Aru in 1958 awaiting disposal. *Garry states 10¼" but this may be a print error.

MAITLAND

Recaptured on Weston line in 1945 and reinstated. Withdrawn in 1953. Restored to working order in 1955 but sold for scrap in 1958. Worksplate sold for £960 at auction in 2015.

F C STOOP

Reboilered about 1923. Damaged beyond repair by Japanese during WWII. Tender used in Gaya rebuild.

Sir BOUVERIE CLARK

Wrecked by the Japanese who blew it up in Pengalat tunnel during their retreat. According to Garry the Australians bombed it as it hauled a Japanese troop train into the tunnel.

EMPIRE

Recaptured intact near Beaufort in 1945. Reinstated. Active around Beaufort in 1958 - ref RM Nov 1958 P 787

GAYA

Rebuilt to 4-6-0 at Tanjong Aru in 1954, has incorrect plate from 4-6-4T #8

KINABALU

Was at Tanjong Aru when the Japanese invaded and sabotaged during their 1945 retreat. Renamed Sir H RALPH HONE in 1953. Has incorrect plate 1091.

BEAUFORT

Was at Tanjong Aru partially dismantled when the Japanese invaded. At Tanjong Aru in 1958 awaiting disposal.

WESTON

Was at Tanjong Aru partially dismantled when the Japanese invaded. Rebuilt to 4-6-0 in 1954. At Tanjong Aru in 1958 awaiting disposal. Sold for scrap later the same year.

TENOM

Sold 1929 to Philippine Lumber Company.

PAPAR

Worked up until WWII but was in poor condition when recovered and a planned overhaul in 1951 did not materialise. Sold as scrap in 1954.
